Preventing  Catalyst Failure - do's and dont's when changing a catalyst

At the point of changing your catalyst, there are a few important guidelines that will help to ensure a long living catalyst

  • Do find out why the original catalyst failed, and correct this fault before fitting a new Jetex catalyst.
  • Do make sure the lambda sensor is working properly and replace if necessary.
  • Do make sure all joints have a fully tight gas seal.
  • Do use new fittings such as gaskets and nuts and bolts.
  • Don't assume that a new catalyst will cure all emission faults on the vehicle.
  • Don't use exhaust paste before the catalyst.
  • Don't use excessive force when fitting the catalyst.
  • Don't hit or drop the catalyst!
