spent the day at VAG specialists to test their new large bore downpipe and sports cat for the VAG 1.8T engine. The car used was a Golf Mk4 1.8T with a Stage One Revo re-map kit and V6 4 Motion trim. Everything else was standard. The car’s owner Cameron kindly volunteered his pride and joy for the test. We wanted a car that was not heavily modified already. His car fitted the bill perfectly with a switchable Stage 1 Revo kit and standard exhaust. The plan was to rolling road the car under 6 varying conditions (runs):
- Run 1 Stock exhaust with the Revo kit switched off.
- Run 2 Jetex cat-back system (including mid-box) with the Revo kit switched off.
- Run 3 Jetex downpipe and sports cat and cat-back system with the Revo kit switched off.
- Run 4 Stock exhaust with the Revo kit switched on.
- Run 5 Jetex cat-back system (including mid-box) with the Revo kit switched on.
- Run 6 Jetex downpipe and sports cat and cat-back system (without mid-box so one silencer only) with the Revo kit switched on.
Figures were recorded for each run to see what gains would be achieved by fitting a free flowing, larger bore Jetex exhaust system and downpipe/sports cat.The Jetex exhaust parts used for this test included the following
 |
2-box CAT back system, 2.5" bore made from stainless steel with twin round 80mm rolled in angled tailpipes to fit through a V6 4 Motion trim (41-SH0DR or 41-SH0PR)
| NEW 2.5" free-flowing downpipe and sports catalyst made from stainless steel (41T10R) and a straight through mid-pipe to replace mid-box (T41-T2R). Made from stainless steel and designed specifically for high flow, high performance turbo engines. Creates a single box cat-back system (41-SH0DTR or 41-SH0PTR).
